Description

Dawn Redwood, also known as Metasequoia, is a fast-growing, deciduous tree and is one of three species of conifers known as the redwoods.  It was thought to exist only in fossil records until 1945 when a few living trees were discovered in central China.  It is native to the Sichuan-Hubei region of China.  Although it is the shortest of the redwoods, it can grow to over 60 m in height.  The leaves are opposite, 1-3 cm long, and bright fresh green, turning a foxy red-brown in fall.
