Description

The European Beech, as its name describes, is native to Europe and its natural range extends from southern Sweden to central Italy, west to France, southern England, northern Portugal, and central Spain, and east to northwestern Turkey. It is a large tree, capable of reaching heights of 49 m and 3 m in trunk diameter. With an average lifespan of 150-200 years, trees of over 300 years in age have been recorded. European Beech does well in a humid environment with well-drained soil. It is a very popular ornamental tree in parks and large gardens, not only in Europe, but also in North America and New Zealand. The nuts it produces are an important food source for birds, rodents, and can be eaten by humans. (Source: Wikipedia )
