Description

The European White Poplar is native from Spain and Morocco through central Europe to central Asia. A medium-sized tree, it grows up to heights of 16-27 m. It has smooth greyish-white bark with characteristic diamond-shaped marks on young trees. The undersides of the leaves are covered in white scurfy down that stays white until autumn leaf fall. It was introduced to North America in 1748, and in some states in the US is now considered a weed and an invasive species, as it is a highly competitive tree. (Source: Wikipedia )
