Description

The Yellowwood is also known as the Kentucky yellowwood or American yellowwood. It is native to the southeastern United States with a restricted range from western North Carolina west to eastern Oklahoma and from southern Missouri and Indiana south to central Alabama. It is a small to medium-sized tree that typically grows 10-15 m tall, occasionally up to 27 m tall with a broad, rounded crown and smooth grey bark. It is one of the rarest trees of eastern North America, though it is often planted as an ornamental outside of its native range and favoured for its attractive white flowers that appear in June. Named for its yellow heartwood, it is used in small amounts for specialist furniture, gunstocks, and decorative wood turning. (Source: Wikipedia )
